Brooke brings the fun, cab or no cab

By Jim Memmott

Amazing Race, Season 25, Episode 8

Sicily/Malta – It’s crunch time with the Race resuming Friday the 28th. Five teams and three episodes remain before the season ends.

What’s the next team to go?

Now that the college sweethearts and flight attendants Tim and Te Jay have been sent home (a little more about that later), you’ve got to figure that wrestlers Brooke and Robbie are endangered.
Robbie and Brooke

I'm not saying that they aren't fun, especially Brooke who is basically an out-of-control color commentator, often forgetting that she’s actually in the race herself.

Brooke spots Amy of the Sweet Scientists limping, so she does an exaggerated fake limp herself.

Brooke sees the Cyclists, Alli and Kym; she tells us how much she hates the Cyclists; she takes part in a conspiracy against the Cyclists complete with code names (Misti is Cuspid, Jim is Molar). Alas, memories are short on the Race and the code names are never put to use.

Adam and Bethany
Brooke sees Bethany, she tells us how much she likes Bethany.

“Bethany is like the Terminator,” she says. “She has one arm, and she destroys every challenge. Her feet are like the rudder on a boat. How is that possible?”

I’d like to see Brooke and her tag team partner Robbie remain in the race, but there’s a problem. They simply can’t get a cab. They could be first in line at the taxi queue at JFK and still not snag a ride.

But, hey, they survived, Robbie counting out their fifth place finish by flexing his pecs.

Te Jay and Tim didn’t make it, taking poolsters Drew and Emily with them. What happened to T and T? They had a speed bump; they got hung up on the greased pole challenge that stymied every team; all in all, they just didn’t have it.

But they enjoyed themselves, and they’re betting that Te Jay’s mom was watching. “I just hope she will see the craziness that we are as boyfriends and not as roommates and accept us as really are,” Te Jay said.

OK, here’s some quick reminders on what happened in the episode.

Surfers Bethany (see Brooke above) and Adam won. They had another good episode, Bethany rappelling down a cliff, then swimming with a clue between her teeth. But credit the win to the Express Pass that allowed them to skip that greased pole challenge and head to the finish line.

Dr. Tim of the Dominating Dentists said he and Dr. Misti were after a fifth win – “I’m ready for the thumb,” he said, counting four fingers and then looking at his fifth digit. Alas, no thumb, as the dental dual was slowed down by the glasses-on-a-tray challenge. They made up time

shining armor – they polish for a living, after, all – but not enough.

Bikers Alli and Kym (see Brooke above) did just fine, as did the Sweet Scientists Maya and Amy despite Amy’s bum ankle (see Brooke above.)

At the finish Maya did an adrenaline-fueled extra lap.

“This is a life rush, Phil,” she said to a clearly freaked-out host. “I love life, Phil, absolutely adore it.”

Who doesn’t? Happy Thanksgiving to all, and to all a good Race.

Overheard:

Brooke: I can’t stand the cyclists; they do their own thing.

Kym: Maybe we’re just New Yorkers.

Robbie: I’m no longer Robbie, I’ll be Sniper.

Misti: We polish teeth every day.

Adam: We’re in love.

Brooke: Where do they come up with these sports?

Order of finish:

1) Adam and Bethany
2) Jim and Misti
3) Alli and Kym
4) Amy and Maya
5) Brooke and Robbie

6) Te Jay and Tim
